letter to my feminist friend

A letter to my feminist friend is a piece I wrote to my feminist friend who is a strong advocate for women's emancipation. In this letter, I rant about gender inequality (focusing on women), the possible reason why it ever cropped up in society, and the necessary efforts we need to eradicate this cancer.

I believe no institution whatsoever can efficiently flourish without the full utilization of the abilities of both female and male gender.

Why the need of treating men and women differently?

You can say that again.

Taking you back, in African societies, conclusions were drawn from the roles women played in society. Women were considered to be house workers, since women were usually of weaker physical stamina they stayed home as their husbands went on hunting conquests, and they were not allowed to take on authoritative leadership roles in the community or social gatherings, their contributions were not given leeway.

In some societies, newly born females were baptized with the belief of possessing a bad omen. Such perceptions placed women at an unfair advantage.

To date, in the gender sphere, women are still viewed as mere sexual objects, associated with weak minds, undermined of their strengths and abilities, denied opportunities being regarded as incapable.

In any case, despite the abilities, strengths, and qualifications that women clasp, they are bereaved of the stance they must hold in society. Continually widowed of any responsibilities or opportunities they should take on and enjoy. Female potential remains largely unutilized.

Modern society has disparately purchased similar outdated mythology of stereotyping women as inferior beings in relation to men. As we’ve seen, the idea is deeply rooted in the social, cultural, political, and religious settings of society.

Be honest. What’s your view about women? Do you think they are capable?

Here’s my view. Society is evolving, more women are getting educated, becoming intellectually stronger, engaging in sports, leadership, working jobs that were labeled as only for men, and fearlessly harboring ‘men’ responsibilities.

Despite the transformation of the status quo of the female gender, society has rigidly refused to approve the penetration of women into the forefront space in various spheres of life.

It is time to bury that old mentality towards women.

Perhaps it's high time we gave women more stages to voice their ideas, more support to fuel their ambitions, and do many great things.

Women back then barely questioned their roles, they barely stood up for their rights nor act in retaliation for how they were treated. Women barely demanded equality with their male counterparts.

The modality is changing!

As a young generational egalitarian, I believe we still have a long way to trek. I am not ready to watch history suffocate the future. I will use whichever tool or medium in my power to advocate for humane principles. The thought of letting such a status quo survive in the modern age grieves me.

Do not wait for your sister to be denied a job opportunity because she identifies as a female or for your sister to be denied access to contest for a position because she identifies as a female.

I envision a society that is free of fallacious gender attributions. A community that Is blind to gender stereotyping factoids as a basis for discerning strengths and capabilities.

To the women out there, do not sit back but partake in the struggle. Do not allow women to be looked down on. Show and share your ability to the world, what a woman is capable of in the strictest sense.

Long to change the status quo.

Support fellow women, take part in feminist initiatives, and do not be silent when a woman is unfairly treated.
